In my continued efforts to understand the tanning salon business, I actually went into a few tanning salons in my area and asked them for their pricing sheets. Boy did I get more confused than ever with the pricing structure of these tanning salons. You had to be an Einstein to figure out where the best deals in tanning really were.
Because the monthly price as compared to the single time price at one tanning salon may be better for the lay down level two bed whereas they may be higher than the one down the street for the level three stand up unit. Add to it the specials they may have during specific times of the day, which may or may not be convenient to the customer and you have a bigger problem.
Complicating the issue is when one tanning salon with higher prices offers free eyewear protection and the lower priced tanning salon offers no freebies and you have to pay two or three dollars for eye protection.
So the bottomline of the entire salon industry in my area was based upon confusing the customer so he or she does not really know a good deal from a bad one.
And the confusion only multiplies when you throw in the lotions. You know tanning salons make a huge profit on products and so the pricing structure there was confusing too.
The timings of many of these places were also all over the chart. Some were open late in the evenings, some were open on Sundays whereas others were closed on Sundays but open later in the evenings; some were closed for three hours in the mid afternoons whereas some were open right through lunch times.
And yet some had multiple locations and seemed successful whereas some were struggling with only one store.

I appreciate your view. But i would always suggest to tan salon owner to take tanning salon franchise because it not only gives a brand name but also proper training and support.
